Link Building

Call it whatever you want (Link Popularity, Link Exchange, Reciprocal Linking) but just don’t forget to do it if you want to attain top rankings for your website.

For a long time Link Building was not a very well understood aspect of Internet Marketing. Then came along Sergey Brin and Larry Page and their invention --a search engine called ‘Google’.

Google is now one of the top Internet companies in the world and it’s two founders are multi-billionaires. So what does all this have to do with Link Building? Glad you asked.

It was Brin and Page who capitalized on the power of websites trading links with one another by attaching a value to those links and thus improving the quality and relevancy of 'organic' search engine results.

Once online marketers, webmasters, and website owners realized the important role inbound and outbound links played in the search engine algorithms, Link Building became a ‘must-do’ online marketing strategy.

Types of Links

Outbound Links are those that exist on your website pointing to other websites that you or visitors to your website may find of interest.

Inbound Links are links pointing to your website on other websites.

Reciprocal Links are where two websites exchange links with each other… because everyone is/ was doing this type of linking, they have lost much of their value in the search engine algorithms.

These days, it’s ‘one-way Inbound Links’ that are highly valued and sought after. These links are where other websites link to your site, but you don’t link back to them. Buying ‘Ad Text’ Links is another linking strategy that’s been aggressively pursued by many companies. The search engines have caught on to this practice and are making the necessary adjustments to their algorithms.
